Recovering from a serious car accident injury?

Anyone who has ever navigated busy New York roadways understands how stressful it can be with horns honking, taxis flitting this way and that, and hundreds of pedestrians crossing the street, many times against traffic signals! A motorist always needs to be alert and prepared to react to unexpected situations. When reckless or distracted drivers join the mix, an uneventful trip to the grocery store or your favorite restaurant can become a tragic situation.

Concern over increase in fatal car crashes

As New York drivers have witnessed, there seems to be an increase in traffic on the road. The increase is attributed to cheaper gas prices and a better economy. However, a downside is that it has been accompanied by an increase in fatal crashes. According to a report from the National Safety Council, 2016 traffic fatalities were up by 6 percent from 2015. A survey from the same group revealed that part of the problem might be drivers' attitudes.

Survey finds young drivers take risks on the road

Younger drivers in New York and elsewhere may be more likely to take risks on the road than other age groups. This was according to a survey by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. It found that 88.4 percent of drivers between the ages of 19-24 engaged in dangerous behavior while behind the wheel in the last 30 days. In 2015, there were 35,092 traffic fatalities, which was a 7 percent increase from 2014, and it was the largest percentage increase in 50 years.

Spike in traffic deaths alarm safety advocates

The daily commute for many people in New York could be getting more dangerous according to a report from the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety. Motivated by a 7.2 percent year-over-year increase in roadway deaths in 2015 and a jump of approximately 8 percent during the first nine months of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015, the safety group has urged legislatures throughout the country to adopt tougher laws to enforce the use of seat belts and motorcycle helmets.
